Great and mighty is our God

Zephaniah-3-17

The Verse of the Day for May 16, 2014 is found in Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV). Take a look at this rendering of the verse in the Amplified Bible:

The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them]; He will exult over you with singing.

This verse makes known just how great God is. Indeed, the Scriptures ascribe greatness to our God, as Deuteronomy 32:3 (Amplified Bible) also reminds us that we should “proclaim the name and presence of the Lord. Concede and ascribe greatness to our God.” Other passages reveal that God is not only great but he is also mighty:

Deuteronomy 10:17 (AMP)

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, Who is not partial and takes no bribe.

Job 36:5 (AMP)

Behold! God is mighty, and yet despises no one nor regards anything as trivial; He is mighty in power of understanding and heart.

Psalm 50:1 (AMP)

The Mighty One, God the Lord,
Has spoken and called the earth
from the rising of the sun to its going down.

Jeremiah 32:18 (AMP)

You Who show loving-kindness to thousands but recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosoms of their children after them. The great, the mighty God; the Lord of hosts is His name—

Byron Cage provides a powerful musical reminder that “Great and Mighty is Our God.”

Zephaniah 3:17 not only declares that the Lord our God is mighty but he rejoices over his people with joy. Such sentiments are echoed in

Psalm 147:11 (AMP)

The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness.

Psalm 149:4 (AMP)

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation and adorn the wretched with victory.

Just as God spoke comforting to Israel, even moreso will He rejoice over us as believers who seek to do His will and to serve Him:

Jeremiah 32:41 (AMP)

Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul.

Psalm 149 says, “He will beautify the humble with salvation,” offered in this Christian Scripture Worship song:
