Power of Agreement

July 19, 2019

We can access untapped potential when we recognize the power of agreement and come into agreement with God and His Word.

In a recent post on PureGlory.net, Apostle Gabriel Cross posted the following statement which arrested my attention:

Come out of agreement with the enemy and come into the love agreement, with the Father, concerning the wonderful, who you are, and your destiny.

It’s time to EMBRACE WHO YOU ARE, completely!

So many times, as believers we come into agreement with “the enemy” of our souls” and believe what others say about us, including ourselves, as we embrace negative words and images that portray us in ways that attempt to override God’s revelation of who we really are in light of all He has called us to be.

The stirring comments caused me to think about the “Power of Agreement.” When it comes to all that God has spoken to us there should be no disagreement; however, at times we encounter a differing opinion or as the title of this response describes, an

Argument

to express my point of view
to convince and convert you
I keep an open mind
and try to find
reasons to conclude
and win my case and erase
the trace of doubt
to rescind the scowl
and take the frown
and turn it upside down
into a smile for me

“I see. . . I see. . .
I agree. . . BUT!”

In those instances of disagreement, the insidious culprit can be fear which seeks to undermine and weaken our confidence in God. In those instances, we must remember “God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

The spirit of fear—is crippling, debilitating, for God says, “I can do all things through Christ,” but the spirit of fear challenges everything God says and argues with Him. God desires that we agree with His word and never respond with “But!”

We must recognize there is no power in fear. Indeed, the spirit of fear renders impotent those who embrace this enemy of faith. Dierdre Curry speaks of the “disempowering impact of disagreement” which nullifies the promises of God, all of which are “yes” and “Amen.” Furthermore, there is no fear in love, for God is love and perfect love casts out all fear. God’s desire is that we be made whole, abounding with a healthy body, a sound mind, and a fruitful spirit.

Our heart’s desire is to abide in the will of God, as we more fully comprehend this vital factor of life:

The Power of Agreement

Again, I say unto you, That if two of you
shall agree on earth as touching any thing
that they shall ask, it shall be done for them
of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 18:19

Boundless power lies in the hands of those who agree.
As touching anything that two of them shall ask,
God hastens to perform, to fulfill their decree,
No matter how small or how great the task.
Those who ask shall receive, and those who seek shall find.
To those who knock, it shall be opened unto;
Those who become one in heart and soul and in mind
Scale the mountain of faith to reach the highest view.
They know the transforming power of the spoken word,
Far beyond the bounds that finite minds encompass.
Nothing shall be withheld from those in one accord,
Who decree that their words have already come to pass.
Once agreed upon, the deed is already done
For those whose heart and soul have been fused into one.

With one mind

Romans 15 5-6

On May 20, 2016, The Verse of the Day can be found in Romans 15:5-6 (AMP):

Now may the God who gives endurance and who supplies encouragement grant that you be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify and praise and honor the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This passage is an expression of God’s desire for unity or oneness, not only for the Church at Rome but throughout the Body of Christ. This call for being unified and of the same mind is to be according to Christ Jesus, whose final prayer on earth was that those who followed him would be one, even as he and the Father were one.

Throughout the Church Epistles, we find that believers are called to be “likeminded” or “of the same mind.” In Philippians we also note two similar exhortations expressed in the phrase “with one mind”:

Philippians 1:27 (AMP):

Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel.

Philippians 2:2 (NLT)

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

In a similar manner to the closing comments leading to a benediction in Romans 15:5-6, we find this final reminder in 2 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV):

[Greetings and Benediction] Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Likewise, take a look at the this statement from 1 Peter 3:8 (NLT)

[All Christians] Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

In reflecting upon the concept of being likeminded or unified with one mind, I thought of the words of Jesus Christ who spoke of what can occur when two believers come into agreement or “are of one mind.” His words inspired these comments in poetry:

The Power of Agreement

Again I say to you, that if two believers on earth agree [that is, are of one mind,

in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God],

it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

Matthew 18:19 (AMP)

If only we completely understood that

when we come into full agreement with God’s will

and His Word, He actually breathes life into us,

as well as our situations.

Boundless power lies in the hands of those who agree.

As touching anything that two of them shall ask,

God hastens to perform, to fulfill their decree,

No matter how small or how great the task.

Those who ask shall receive, and those who seek shall find.

To those who knock, it shall be opened unto;

Those who become one in heart and soul and in mind

Scale the mountain of faith to gain a grander view,

To know the transforming power of the spoken word,

Far beyond the bounds that finite minds encompass.

Nothing shall be withheld from those in one accord,

Who declare that their words have already come to pass.

Once agreed upon, the deed is already done

For those whose heart and soul have been fused into one.

The Power of Agreement: “I come in agreement with the Lord.”

July 14, 2015

Matthew 18--19This past Sunday at the end of a powerful time of ministry at Christian Provision Ministries, Bishop Charles Mellette ended by exhorting the congregation to make this declaration throughout the week: “I come in agreement with the Lord.” As I considered deeply this statement, I thought of the expression “terms of agreement.” The word “terms” relates the important provisions or conditions that determine the nature and scope of an agreement, which is defined as “harmony of opinion or accord.” An agreement is also said to be an arrangement between parties regarding a course of action. Legally speaking, it is a properly executed and legally binding contract or covenant. Expressing the terms of agreement in writing results in a document embodying such a legally binding contract. When we come into agreement with the Word of God, we recognize that our acknowledging and repeating the Scriptures is simply an expression of “terms of an agreement” between two parties: God and the believer speaking the Word. The entire experience this past Sunday also brought to mind the following poem composed 10 years ago:

The Power of Agreement

Again I say unto you, That if two of you

shall agree on earth as touching any thing

that they shall ask, it shall be done for them

of my Father which is in heaven.

As believers, the Bible encourages us to be in agreement, most notably in Romans 12:16 (Holman Christian Standard Bible):

Be in agreement with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

A similar appeal is found in 1 Corinthians 1:10 in the Amplified Bible:

But I urge and entreat you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in perfect harmony and full agreement in what you say, and that there be no dissensions or factions or divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in your common understanding and in your opinions and judgments.

At the end of the powerful exhortation last Sunday, we were encouraged to speak the phrase “I come in agreement with the Lord” at least seven times a day for the next seven days. The number seven, of course, represents spiritual perfection. To facilitate carrying out this declaration, I wrote the following as a reminder:

“I come in agreement with the Lord.”

Again I say unto you, That if two of you

shall agree on earth as touching any thing

that they shall ask, it shall be done for them

of my Father which is in heaven.

 Matthew 18:19

When we face roadblocks in our lives, God will always make a way.

Some folks say you won’t make it, but we don’t care what they may say.

Watch and see what happens when you do this seven times a day.

The boundless power of agreement is revealed in the Word.

Speak the Word and say, “I come in agreement with the Lord.”

As we pursue the things of God, tribulations will arise,

Whenever the enemy attacks, no matter what he tries,

Just say, “The Devil is a liar, and the father of lies”

The boundless power of agreement is revealed in the Word.

Satan tries to make us think that we are going to lose our mind,

But instead of fear, power, love, and a sound mind are what we find

God prepares the way before us so that we won’t be left behind.

Speak the Word and say, “I come in agreement with the Lord.”

We are on the road to success and looking at the bottom line.

Despite the economic forecast, we know that we will be fine.

Prosperity and good health are part of God’s divine design.

The boundless power of agreement is revealed in the Word.

Christ came to set the captives free, to end confusion and strife.

To strengthen relationships as friends, family, husband and wife,

Christ came that we might know the fullness of more abundant life.

Speak the Word and say, “I come in agreement with the Lord.”

No matter what we may be facing, we stand upon the Word

With the whole armor: picking up the shield and wielding the sword.

Each day we agree with each other and stand in one accord.

Seven times a day say, “I come in agreement with the Lord.”

The boundless power of agreement is revealed in the Word.

Speak the Word and say, “I come in agreement with the Lord.”
