Filled with the knowledge of His will

Colossians_1-9

Although the verse that is central to today’s post was actually the Verse of the Day for this past Saturday, at which time I started the entry, but I did not get to post it until today. This weekend my wife and I travelled to Atlanta for a dual celebration of Veterans Day and my sister’s 70th birthday. Although not specifically designated as the Verse of the Day for November 14, 2016, the subject of the verse relates to “the will of God,” a topic of vital importance every day.

Taken from the opening chapter of the epistle to the Colossians, the Verse of the Day for last Saturday, October 12, was part of a prayer for the believers of Colossae, but it, of course, applies to believers today as well.

Colossians 1:9-10

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

In reflecting on this passage, the phrase “the knowledge of His will” was highlighted in my mind, as once again I recognized that “the will of God,” is the place where I ever desire to be found. While thinking about this concept, I began composing another poem centered on the “The Will of God.” Colossians 1:9-10 form the introduction to this expression:

Filled with the Knowledge of His Will

Colossians 1:9-10

That we may be filled with the knowledge of His will is God’s desire.

To pursue and fulfill God’s will burns within us as a fire,

This all-consuming desire to apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Even as we press forward to usher in the coming kingdom,

We speak the Word of Life that never fails but shall ever inspire.

We seek to find, to know, and to do God’s will and ever aspire

To align our desires with His to do all He would require.

We know that as His will is being done, so shall His Kingdom come:

That we may be filled with the knowledge of His will.

We want to walk in wisdom, and we ask so that we may acquire.

With passion we seek to find the perfect will of God and inquire

Of the Lord Almighty, God of all power and might and dominion.

As we delight to serve; He keeps His Word, giving us our heart’s desire:

That we may be filled with the knowledge of His will.

Numerous songs have been written that relate to “the will of God.” Written by Deb Zemke, one particular song, “His Will,” is played and sung by Robert Jason.

Reflecting on the “The Will of God” is a great way to start the day, any day.
